Month Long Pride Goes Before the Fall
by Dr. Johnny O. Trail, LMFT
In case you have not noticed from the coverage on television, June is gay pride month. This is offered “tongue in cheek,” because one cannot seem to get away from this “celebration.” It seems funny that it takes an entire month to celebrate “gay pride.” Perhaps it is more about celebrating the myriads of sexual genders and orientations that people have invented over the last few decades, and it takes an entire month to get them celebrated. After all, there are at least seventy-two genders!1 Perhaps supporters of these orientations and genders need about two and a half months to show their pride instead of just one.

Other holidays celebrate one day and that seems to suffice. Independence Day, Father’s Day, and other holidays seem to take one day for people to celebrate. While Christmas is our biggest holiday, one wonders if it will not be eclipsed by gay pride month at some point in our nation’s future.

Regardless, our nation takes an entire month to celebrate immorality and the mental illnesses that surround the gender and sexual choices that people make in their lives. Thus, we are left watching commercials, programs, and news casts that show people celebrating their “pride” for an entire month while the rest of us want to go back to our regularly scheduled programing.

The Bible has much to say about pride and sexual immorality. Concerning pride, the Bible says, in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” It stands to reason that with great, month-long pride, there will be great destruction. This a sad thought for people who given themselves over to the god of this world and carnality.

Celebrating sin is no new development in world history. People want to feel comfortable with their transgressions and that oftentimes includes celebrating their inequities. In fact, they are so comfortable they reach a point where they are unable to feel shame regarding their sins. Jeremiah 6:15 says, “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; Nor did they know how to blush. Therefore, they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, they shall be cast down," says the LORD.” One of the most tragic problems in our world is the inability to feel shame at sinful behaviors and this includes more than homosexual behaviors.

While liberal and dishonest theologians attempt to re-write God’s word regarding the sin of homosexuality, the Bible is clear about the matter. Leviticus 18:22 says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” Paul offers the same type of condemnation in the New Testament. Romans 1:26-27 says, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

Those who twist and pervert passages that clearly teach against the sin of homosexuality are emissaries of Satan. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 says, “And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.”

Unlike the conventional wisdom of modern man, there are just two genders. Jesus points this out in His discourse over divorce in Matthew nineteen. He says in verse four, “And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'Made

them male and female.’” While there are scant few genetic anomalies beyond the two genders, they are not favorable to the human condition.

We need to be praying for the people who have had their minds blinded by the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). They have become casualties of humankind’s enemy—Satan. More people need to take Peter’s words seriously when he says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
